My Weekend Reset

I don’t know about you but I love using my weekends as a time to start fresh. Each week is a new chance to reach your goals and the weekend is great for setting yourself up to get going on them! I like to call it my “weekend reset.” I wanted to run through some of the steps I take on the weekends to start my week off on the right foot.

Spend some time during the week to make your Master Weekend To-Do List.

Either during the week, on a Friday afternoon, or early morning on Saturday, I like to make a Master Weekend To-Do List. This list can include anything you want, but I like to section it off into certain categories. My main four categories are:

Housekeeping/Cooking

Career/Business

Family/Friends

Creative Work

I try to only put one or two things per category as not to overwhelm myself. Feel free to add more categories that speak to you on your own list too.

Tidy up your space.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and focus on tidying and decluttering one space. Whether it be your kitchen, your bedroom, or a general living area, you’ll feel so much better when you can start the weekend off with a clear space and mindset.

Move your body.

For some, exercise is the last thing they want to spend their free time doing, but exercise is important because it gives you energy. Don’t feel like you have to go run a marathon on a Saturday morning at 5 a.m. Instead, integrate exercise into your weekend plans. Walking is a great way to get yourself moving, especially if you work a desk job all week. Going for a short hike with friends or even dancing counts! Do some quick yoga stretches when you get up in the morning or before you go to sleep. Exercise will also give you the energy to complete all those tasks you have on your master list.

Spend one hour to do some reflection.

You can either do this at the beginning of the weekend or at the end, but spending some time reviewing the week before and how you’d like to spend the upcoming week is a great tool to practice self-awareness and it can also help you reach your goals faster. Like to journal? Write about how last week felt and what you want to do differently this week. Had a stressful week? Practice some meditation. Resetting your brain is just as important as resetting your body.

Be patient with yourself.

If you don’t finish everything on your to-do list, it’s okay! You’re not a failure; there’s only a certain amount of time in one weekend. Weekends are freeing, and while you can easily spend every waking minute of them being productive, you can sometimes miss out on an enjoyable time with others, or even just lounging on the couch! Use this list as a foundation to build upon and do what truly makes your heart sing. To me, that’s often a sign of a weekend well spent.
