What I Ate in the Outer Banks
Anyone who really knows me knows that I love food. Anytime, anywhere, I will most likely always be hungry. Vacations or weekends out to me are chances to find the best vegan food around. It's almost like a scavenger hunt!
This past weekend, I visited Nags Head, NC for the first time and (of course) had to seek out some great vegan food. While I didn't take many photos and since we were only there for one day, I did get to try two awesome places!
After baking on the beach (and earning a super painful sunburn) I needed a nice cold drink. Luckily, nearby was The Spot. I highly suggest this place if you are looking for a refreshing pick-me-up or want something light instead of a heavy lunch.
They serve acai and pitaya (dragonfruit) smoothie bowls until 7pm everyday. While these seem to be the most popular items on their menu, I decided on a green smoothie. "The Hulk" was filled with pineapple, spinach, almond milk, and other good fruit. Most of their menu items contain honey (including this one) but I just asked for no honey. :)
For an early dinner, we headed to Nags Head Pizza Company. Thanks to prior research, I knew they had vegan cheese options. Which obviously meant we had to go!
I appreciated their thin crust pizza (which the waitress assured me is nothing like Dominos!) and the generous amount of cheese they gave. I ordered the Daily Dose–from their vegan section of the menu(!)–complete with vegan cheese, fresh garlic, onion, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes. It was a little spicy, but the kick was nice! Next time, I would definitely add vegan pepperoni, tofu, or my personal favorite, kalamata olives.
On Sunday, my brother and I took my dad out for Father’s Day dinner at Little Saint in Richmond. With a farm to table menu, they always have vegan options on their menu. Their potato tacos with pico de gallo, pickled red onion, and vegan cheese really hit the spot. Plus, anything served with hot sauce is a win in my book!
